Description | In the first of our Autumn 23/Winter 2024 series returning to, rethinking, and reinvigorating some of the great education and technology thinkers of the past, we consider the visionary educational philosopher Kurt Hahn. Hahn's educational philosophy---neatly synopsized as Expeditionary Learning, now more often subsumed in the modern idea of Experiential Learning, and a core of one of Hahn's many creations, Outward Bound---centered on learner agency, leadership, accountability, exploration, and room for failure. This active, audience-encompassing discussion, will use Hahn's Seven Laws of Salem as a seed to explore what these principles mean in today's educational environments, online and off, and how we can use them to inform rich, engaging learning experiences. More information on Dr. Hahn and the "Seven Laws" he formulated can be found here: https://depts.washington.edu/atuwt/go/ttl-kurt-hahn-laws-salem |
