Please join Legal Pathways in welcoming Janel McFeat, the new Executive Director of the Washington Statewide Reentry Council on April 13 from 12:30pm - 1:30 in BHS 107. McFeat will discuss the work of the Council, exploring what re-entry work means and why it is a vital part of the post-incarceration continuum of care. Janel McFeat most recently was the Project Manager/Strategic Planner for the Second Chance Act Community Based Adult Re-entry grant at the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe. The re-entry program’s success has garnered regional and national attention due to its 81% reduction in recidivism with its target population. She holds a B.A in Social Work from Pacific Lutheran University and has worked 23 years in re-entry, tribal re-entry, restorative justice, and court services. Janel currently implements strategic planning for human dignity re-entry models. McFeat established this restorative based program to reduce recidivism and to change lives, and as a result she was nominated for the White House Champion of Change and the Linda Gabriel Human Rights award for her efforts. McFeat has also been featured in podcasts, documentaries, and news articles related to her programming. Janel presents this human dignity re-entry model to state and national audiences in hopes that we will shift to more restorative and humane practices inside our jails and prisons systems here in Washington State. |
