Description

CAN WE SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF OCEAN PLASTICS? with UW Tacoma alumna Karen Povey, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.

Scientists predict that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish – but are we doomed to this as our new reality? Learn about the issue of ocean plastics and discover innovative production, policy, and consumer strategies underway to develop plastic alternatives. We’ll explore the role our community can play in taking action to staunch the tidal wave of single-use plastics.

UW Tacoma alumna Karen Povey’s passion is connecting people to nature. As Conservation Engagement Manager for Metro Parks Tacoma, she oversees a wide variety of activities to transform those connections to actions that protect wildlife. With the opening of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s new Pacific Seas Aquarium, Karen and her team are energized engaging zoo guests with education and action to eliminate single-use plastics in our community.
