This presentation will be based on continuing work that asks the following questions:
• What is art?
• How is the production and distribution of art organized in different arts disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, literature), and in different places?
• Across the US, where are art production and distribution focused, arts discipline by discipline?  Why?  To what effects?
• Within US metropolitan areas, where are art production and distribution focused, arts discipline by discipline?  Why?  To what effects?  How might urban policy influence these activities and their effects?
