3rd Annual Denim Day at UWT 12-2pm Wednesday, April 24th WPH The UWT campus community is invited to Denim Day at UWT to engage with educational materials, write empowering messages to survivors and/or share their own message on pieces of denim, and get connected to campus and community resources. Wear denim on Wednesday, April 26th to stand with survivors of sexual assault. Denim Day is an international awareness day that seeks to raise awareness of sexual assault, educate on consent and prevention strategies, and believe and celebrate survivors. Denim Day begin in 1998 after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, therefore implying consent. The next day, members of the Italian Parliament wore denim as a sign of protest. This Denim Day, April 24th, stand with survivors, wear denim, and learn about campus and community resources. Open to all campus and community members. |
