Getting a Good Night’s Sleep

Calling all caffeine lovers, chronic yawners, and restless sleepers! Take the first step toward better sleep at this seminar with Dr. Michael V. Vitiello, professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine, and Biobehavioral Nursing. You’ll learn what sleep can do for your health, why we tend to get less than we need, and the link between sleep and illness.

About the Presenter
Dr. Michael V. Vitiello is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Adjunct Professor of the Department of Medicine, Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems at the University of Washington. He received his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Columbia University in 1973 and his Doctorate in Physiological Psychology from the University of Washington in 1980. Following post-doctoral training in Gerontology and in Clinical Psychology, he joined the faculty of the University of Washington’s School of Medicine in 1983. 

Dr. Vitiello is an internationally recognized expert in sleep and sleep disorders in aging. His research interests are in the clinical neuroscience and neuroendocrinology of aging, specifically; understanding the causes, consequences and treatments of age-related disturbances in sleep, circadian rhythms and cognitive function.

Dr. Vitiello serves as chair of the Sleep Disorder's Research Advisory Board (SDRAB) of the NIH's National Center for Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR) Established by an act of Congress the SDRAB is chartered to provide advice to the NIH Director, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Director, and the NCSDR Director on matters related to planning execution, conduct, support and evaluation of research in sleep disorders.
