Lecture (10:00-11:00 am) Heidi McKee will address the challenges and opportunities educators face in the age of GenAI. McKee will present pedagogical frameworks to navigate the complex contexts arising from AI. She will discuss strategies to explore and develop human-machine teaming, to counter the problematic presence of for-profit companies, and to center human writers and human agencies while considering the the pedagogical, ethical, societal, and environmental impacts of the use (or non-use) of GenAI in writing instruction across the curriculum. Workshop (11:30 am-12:30 pm) In this workshop, McKee will facilitate the exploration and the development of assignments and activities for integrating the critical analysis and context-specific use of AI in writing courses across the curriculum. Participants will first discuss how they are or have considered using AI (or not using AI) for teaching and learning. Then participants will revise an assignment to integrate the use or analysis of AI. The goal for this hands-on workshop is that participants will come away with tangible approaches for considering AI usage and/or analysis in their writing instruction. Heidi McKee (English, Miami University) teaches courses in business communication, digital writing, grant writing, legal writing, medical writing, and research methods. For over 20 years, McKee has researched writing and digital writing technologies. Since 2016 she has been researching artificial intelligence and its impact on professional communication.
