Description

Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching or learning materials that have been released under a license that allows them to be freely used, changed, or shared with others.

Join us to hear from a panel of UW authors who have created OER at UW:

  • Justin Marlowe, Associate Dean and Professor, Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, author of Financial Strategy for Public Managers
  • Eduardo Viana da Silva, Lecturer and Portuguese Program Coordinator, CAS: Spanish & Portuguese Studies, author of Introduction to Portuguese
  • Ian Schnee, Senior Lecturer, Philosophy, author of The Logic Course Adventure
Each of these UW authors created flexible, re-mixable teaching resources that are openly licensed for others to use.  These projects can also save students money by replacing costly textbooks with freely available, downloadable resources. The panelists will describe their diverse projects, including goals, challenges and successes, followed by a Q&A with audience members.

Attend this event to:

  • Learn about the process of authoring open textbooks, and involving students in the creation of openly licensed course materials
  • Get inspired to take steps towards OER adoption, promotion and creation in your classroom
  • Connect with UW instructors invested in similar projects
  • Learn about UW resources and services for OER creation
  • Hear about the impact of OER on teaching and learning at UW

This panel is part of a series of activities celebrating Open Education Week (March 2-6).  Open Education Week provides an opportunity for the UW Libraries to raise awareness and showcase the impact of open education on teaching and learning at the UW and worldwide.  Questions?
