Description

Professor Berg will present a talk titled "Producing Anxiety in the Neoliberal University." In this presentation, Berg investigates processes of neoliberalization in the academy, and the resultant production of anxiety among faculty members. Berg argues that neoliberalism entails shifts from exchange to competition, from equality to inequality, and from labour to human capital. Berg suggests that auditing systems are key mechanisms of neoliberalization that produce unhealthy levels of anxiety and stress in the academy as they instantiate precarity across all ranks of academic faculty. The talk will begin at 3:30pm and a reception will follow.
