Since 2003, a large number of horror films have been made in Norway, a country previously without any production of horror films. This talk discusses why horror appeals to Norwegian audiences and how Norwegian horror film directors rethink questions of landscape and gender through genre cinema.

Gunnar Iversen is professor of Film Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and former professor of Film and Media Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He has published numerous books and articles about Norwegian and Scandinavian Cinema, Documentary, Sound Studies, and Early Cinema.
