Rachel Wong, Ph.D.
UW Professor and Chair, Biological Structure

Science in Medicine Lecture:  “Assembling precise neuronal wiring patterns in the healthy and diseased eye.”

Vision relies on information conveyed by highly organized circuits in the neural retina at the back of the eye. The Wong laboratory applies state-of-the-art optical imaging and functional approaches to uncover the developmental mechanisms that underlie the precision by which retinal circuits are assembled early in life. These approaches, applied to the healthy retina, also provide insight into the possibilities and challenges in rewiring circuits that are disrupted by disease.
