Polarizing Black masculine on YouTube: Influencer pedestalization, information sharing and misogyny Adiza Awwal, HCDE PhD studentThis paper advances the understanding of the digital and cultural significance of the online community colloquially known as the “black manosphere.” Through the use of Critical technocultural discourse analysis (CTDA) and virtual ethnography on prominent misogynistic content creators on YouTube catering to black males, we analyze the types of strategies for community building, the information environment, and ideological orientation. This work conceptualizes black manosphere as distinct from the mainstream and extends the landscape for investigation into the community’s narratives, ideology, politics and hierarchical construction of gender online.
