The UW Neural Engineering Tech Studio course was created to give students an opportunity to be creative and innovative with neuro-technology. In this 10-week course, offered once per year, teams of graduate and undergraduate students compete to create novel neural engineering technologies that are commercially viable. During the final presentations, student teams demo their prototypes for a panel of industry, media, and academic judges, and a winner will be announced. Details about last year’s event are available at….

The event is open to the public, and this year’s projects include:

Grasp Independence: An orthotic grasping mechanism for stroke survivors with hemiparesis who desire to perform independent tasks that require dual hand dexterity.

Focus Frames: A wearable neurosensory that detects engagement level, strengthens innate attention and trains your focus.

Hawkulus: Control your phone with your eyes. A wearable input modality for intuitive, hands-free device operation.

Os (eye) ris: A platform designed for visually-impaired individuals that assists in finding commonly used objects at home. Specialized markers are used to tag common items for identification at later times.

AEGIS: A plug-and-play alternative gaming controller that uses EMG signals for graded control, creating an intuitive and immersive gaming experience.
