Regional Leadership for Global Sustainability
How the Pacific Northwest is Leading the Way to a Clean Energy Future
Dr. Steven Ashby
Laboratory Director, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Energy powers our nation’s economic engine and prosperity. Providing clean, reliable, and secure sources of energy—and managing them efficiently—is essential to sustainable growth and responsible stewardship of our planet. The Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, located in Eastern Washington, is focused on this challenge. We are partnering with colleagues at the University of Washington, and throughout the Northwest, to advance the science and develop the technologies that will enable this clean energy future. In this presentation, Laboratory Director Steven Ashby will highlight collaborations in a variety of areas, including nanomaterials, data analytics, and power engineering. He also will discuss opportunities for the research institutions in the region to provide national leadership in clean energy R&D, building on a recent workshop hosted by the UW.
