We are honored to welcome Dr. Oliver J. Myers as our distinguished Black History Month speaker. Dr. Myers is an accomplished Associate Professor and the Associate Dean of Inclusion and Equity at Clemson University's College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences. Holding a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Dr. Myers is a renowned expert in the characterization of smart materials and smart structure mechanics across various scales. His significant achievements include being named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and receiving the Dr. Eugene Deloatch Legacy Award. Dr. Myers has played a pivotal role in securing over $3 million in grant and research funding, notably for groundbreaking projects in creating "smart materials."
As a leader in fostering inclusivity, he has initiated impactful programs and conversations addressing racial and gender divides in academia. Dr. Myers' dedication to mentorship and commitment to replicating successful programs, such as the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, showcase his unwavering commitment to fostering diversity and excellence in education.
