WhenFriday, Apr. 5, 2019, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
WhereCentral Washington University

CyberRange Poulsbo will present a Workshop on the PISCES project at CWU – Ellensburg, on April 5th 2019.

The workshop will be for schools who are interested in adapting the PISCES project into their curriculum.

The PISCES project in an industry-academia-government cooperative project with the objectives of 1) Giving advanced cybersecurity students hands-on experience as an analyst on live networks, 2) Providing security monitoring of network assets for small government entities who would be otherwise unable to afford it, and 3) Testing network analyst tools in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security.

The project deploys network sensors in the networks of small government entities around Washington State (currently there are 5 government participants with more in the process of coming on board).   The data from these sensors (netflow and other data) is delivered to an Elasticsearch, Logstack, Kibana (ELK) stack located in CyberRange Poulsbo.  Students participate in classes to learn how these and other analyst and IDS tools function.  As a part of their course, the students perform active monitoring of the networks using tools provided by the CyberRange over a VPN.   Findings from the students are shared through the Washington State Fusion Center.

WWU has developed a curriculum and is in the second year of teaching the course.   The curriculum is designed for compatibility with the particular systems and processes deployed by PISCES.  It is developed and targeted for advanced students in a four year curriculum.

Schools interested in participating in the project are invited to the workshop.  The workshop will cover the details of the processes and the course.

The workshop will be held in Ellensburg at CWU on April 5th, 10am -3pm (Lunch included).

If you or someone from your school is interested in participating, please notify me NLT 1 March 2019.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
