Manager Development Session. Onboarding
WhenThursday, Jan. 3, 2019, 2 – 4 p.m.

In the 2016 Engagement Survey, Onboarding was identified as an area that needed improvement on our campus.  Organizational Excellence/Human Resources has made changes to the in-person New Staff Orientation (still held monthly) and have created new checklists that are being used by new staff and their managers.  Additional information is also available on-line and at the Seattle campus Benefits and Union (where applicable) orientations.  But orientation is only a small piece of on-boarding.  You, as the manager, have responsibility for the largest part of On-boarding.  According to the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), in a recent survey of over 1000 workers, just 12 percent agreed their company did a good job with onboarding!  An effective on-boarding program can enhance job satisfaction and reduce turn-over.

This presentation will include: A walk-through of all resources available to you as a manager.  You will also discover what your new staff are learning from their resources.  What is the difference between One UW and Welcome Day?  Why is it important for your new staff member to take part?

Information you can expect to learn: Learn the difference between Orientation and On-boarding, and your role in each. Learn how to set up your new staff member for success, including how to have 30, 60 and 90-day conversations and check-ins.
