WhenWednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, 9 – 10 a.m.

Dr. Holly Jones is an ecosystem/restoration ecologist who uses interdisciplinary, cross-scale methods to answer applied biological research questions both domestically and internationally.  Dr. Jones earned her Ph.D. from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and completed a post-doc at UC Santa Cruz in partnerships with both The Nature Conservancy and Conservation International. Dr. Jones is currently an Assistant Professor jointly appointed to the Department of Biological Sciences and the Institute for the Study of the Environment, Sustainability, and Energy at Northern Illinois University. Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of ecosystem degradation and species endangerment and seeks to understand how to best prioritize restoration and conservation efforts, identify innovative restoration/conservation strategies, and highlight solutions to declining biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.  She works with conservation non-profits, practitioners, and other researchers to incorporate environmental economics and public policy into her research. Dr. Jones is a dedicated teacher and mentor, approaching each with individualized attention for students and emphasizing teamwork, experiential learning, and critical thinking skills in the classroom and lab. Dr. Jones is passionate about science communication and diversity and inclusion, using opportunities in her teaching, public speaking, and established local K-12 partnerships to forward these aims.
