CSS Speaker Series: Liang Xie
WhenWednesday, Mar. 1, 2017, 8 – 9 p.m.

Please join us for a talk by Liang Xie on “Time Series Forecasting in Engineering Application.”

In this seminar, we present at high level how MSFT Azure Storage uses time series analysis to drive better engineering and detect issues quickly. Specifically, we will talk about:

  1. Anomaly detection where our monitoring system quickly identify metrics deviating from normal path, and send out notification to engineers;
  2. Time Series Forecasting where our system conducts forward look predictions so that it is able to schedule various jobs more intelligently and efficiently;
  3. Volatility Forecasting where our system conducts anticipates when traffic load will become volatile and take appropriate actions to keep system availability
Liang Xie is Principal Data Scientist at Microsoft Azure Storage Core engineering. He is responsible for driving engineering optimization via machine learning and advanced data analytics. Before joining Microsoft, Liang was Director of Analytics at The Travelers Indemnity Company, one of the largest P&C insurance companies in US. Liang has a Ph.D in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
