Each year thousands of walkers, joggers and runners come together to participate in the Seattle Marathon, the oldest marathon in the Pacific Northwest. This signature race traverses our great city, spanning from Seattle Center to Green Lake and crossing through the University of Washington. Go Dawgs! UW Medicine is proud to sponsor the marathon, and each year UW Medicine staff provide essential medical support to participants along the course. This year, The Whole U and UW Endurance Club invite you to join us as a volunteer at the University of Washington water station. Together, we’ll fuel these inspiring athletes as they pass through our campus on their way to completing 13.1 or 26.2 miles! What should you expect while volunteering? - Arrive at 6:00 a.m. and volunteer until noon on Sunday, December 1.
- Fill up water cups and/or pass them out to race participants.
- Pick up trash to keep the course clean.
- Pass out any non-emergency medical supplies (such as Band-Aids).
What should you bring? - Comfortable shoes
- Personal snack and drinks
- Layers: Coats / gloves / rain jacket / extra socks (purple and gold recommended!)
The Whole U will be in touch the week of the race to confirm details on where to meet on race day. Interested in supporting the race but can’t commit to volunteering? Join us at Rainier Vista to cheer on and encourage everyone who passes by. Let’s share our Husky spirit! |
