Description | The key to a Blue Economy is the establishment of socially equitable ocean sectors such as marine renewable energy, ecotourism, aquaculture, blue carbon, and fisheries—but how do you achieve equity within these sectors when the environment is quickly changing and so many people are unable or not allowed to adapt? Currently, we have climate and biophysical projection models up to 2050 that can help identify where there is resource availability and therefore Blue Economy capacity. However, the policies and actions derived directly from these models can worsen systemic inequities if these models alone are used as the main information guiding implementation. How do we move forward and harness the potential of a Blue Economy without perpetuating social inequities? In this webinar, we will delve into approaches to mitigate inequities, for example, by first raising awareness of how, by whom, and for whom, and in what manner these policies are applied. Join the conversation on the future of an equitable Blue Economy on Thursday May 23. |
