From the Lab to the World and Back: How Memory Theories Improve Education and Health
Prof. Dr. Hedderik van Rijn, University of Groningen; CEO MemoryLab & MemoryLab Health
Psychological theories claim to describe how the human cognitive system works, yet are often fine-tuned to lab-based data. In this talk, I will discuss how we applied a computational cognitive theory of human declarative memory functioning to the real-world contexts of education and health-care, improving the lives of 1.6 million students in six different countries, and providing a pathway towards more efficient treatment of diseases characterized by memory dysfunction (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, depression).
