Are you interested in using digital tools to share your research with wider audiences? Are you teaching online and would like to explore new platforms for digital pedagogy? Join us for the Digital Scholarship Summer Immersion (DSSI) Program, offered by the UW Libraries!

DSSI offers an opportunity to work with new digital scholarship tools and to connect with others interested in open digital scholarship and pedagogy. By the end of DSSI, you will:

  • Start your digital scholarship project and have a plan for next steps
  • Identify how you might integrate digital scholarship into your teaching.
  • Connect with others and develop a cross-disciplinary community within your cohort.
  • Learn new skills to apply to your research or teaching in a fun, low key atmosphere.

Dates: August 3rd-14th

Registration Link:

DSSI will run August 3rd through 14th. When you register, you’ll receive a link to the course content, a series of short videos and assignments that will help you master the basics of the digital tools in your track, and prepare you to start working on your own digital project. Participants will come together virtually with others enrolled in their DSSI track for two hours each week for discussion and community building. Participants may also participate in an additional two hours a week of plenary sessions on topics spanning open digital work, such as copyright, metadata, and working with students in open environments. Total time commitment for the two week period is estimated to be 8 live virtual hours and up to 12 hours working independently. Tracks for this summer’s DSSI program include:

  • Introduction to Omeka: Learn the basics of showcasing digital objects such as images and media using Omeka. Add materials to Omeka and create an exhibit with accompanying scholarly commentary. This track is designed for beginners or those new to Omeka.
  • Live Virtual Sessions: Monday 8/3, Wednesday 8/5, Monday 8/10, Wednesday 8/12, at 1pm

Who can participate?
To participate in DSSI, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a current UW student, faculty, or staff member of the University of Washington
  • If you are working in a team project, please note that you can submit the form once for your entire team.
