Mario Kratz, Ph.D.
Associate Member, Public Health Sciences Division, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

This event will be held online via Zoom. The seminar will begin at 3:30 PM and you can attend via the following link:  washington.zoom.us…

In this presentation, Dr. Kratz will summarize the findings from a recently completed randomized controlled dietary intervention trial that compared the impact of diets limited in dairy foods vs. diets rich in low-fat or full-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese on glucose homeostasis. This was a 4-month trial in 72 men and women with the metabolic syndrome, motivated by consistent findings in observational studies suggesting that the consumption of dairy foods, particularly fermented dairy such as yogurt as well as dairy fat, is strongly associated with a lower incident type 2 diabetes.

Mario Kratz has Master’s and PhD degrees in Nutritional Science from the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany. He currently is an Associate Member in the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and a Research Associate Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology and Medicine at the University of Washington. He is also a core faculty member in the Nutritional Sciences Program. His research group conducts clinical research on the relationship between nutrition, obesity, and cardiometabolic disease.
