Technology has been driving innovation and changing the landscape in the enterprise space over the last decade, and founders with deep technical backgrounds are in a unique position to create products and teams that bring unique differentiation to the market. Tim Chen sees a set of common errors that first-time founders often make. In this talk, Tim will discuss these mistakes and how to navigate them while sharing his journey as a founder, investor and mentor.

Tim is currently SVP of Engineering at Tendermint. He previously served as the CEO of Hyperpilot (funded by Bessemer, NEA, DHVC) that later exited to Cloudera in 2018. At Cloudera, Tim was leading ML enterprise platform engineering and helping product and sales activities to sell into Fortune 500 companies. Before Hyperpilot, Tim was 10th employee at Mesosphere and worked at VMWare, Microsoft, and several other startups. Timothy also angel invests in pre-seed to seed-stage enterprise companies. Fundamentals for Startups is a weekly one-hour lecture series featuring notable experts who share startup-related information, experience, and insights with our entrepreneurial community. From raising capital to scaling to exit strategies, these seasoned guest speakers deliver valuable content designed to help startups and entrepreneurs thrive. Lectures are typically 30-40 mins, followed by open Q&A.
