Description

Physician Wellbeing: Challenges and Opportunities

Numerous studies have documented the prevalence of physician burnout, characterized by a high degree of emotional exhaustion and high depersonalization and a low sense of personal accomplishment from work. In this Grand Rounds, Carol Bernstein, MD, will will identify key factors contributing to stress, burnout, wellbeing and resilience among trainees and faculty. She will describe the complex inter-relationships between burnout, depression and resilience and how these factors may interact with each other as a result of pressures in the academic medical center. She will also identify different approaches to the problem, both at the individual and systemic level with some commentary on the role that psychiatry can play.

Dr. Bernstein is a Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at the New York University School of Medicine.
