Dr. Sarah Vorpahl – Senior Energy Policy Specialist for Distributed Energy Policy, Washington State Department of Commerce

UW Chemistry alumna Sarah Vorphal (Ph.D. ’17) spent 2017-18 as an OSA/MRS Science & Engineering Congressional Fellow, where she served as a special legislative assistant in energy and environmental policy for Senator Bernie Sanders (I–VT). While at the UW, she was a National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellow and a founding member of the Women in Chemical Sciences and Diversity in Clean Energy student groups.

Dr. Vorpahl will talk about her path through graduate school and into policy work at the state and federal levels and her experience as a scientist working on public policy.
