Description

Michael McCann and George Lovell will give a public presentation of their book-in-progress, A Union by Law: Filipino Labor Activists, Rights Radicalism, and Racial Capitalist Empire, 1900-2000. The book discusses the long history of cannery worker unionism, particularly ILWU Local 37. 

Michael McCann was director of the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies from 2014 to 2018. Faculty in the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington, he is the Gordon Hirabayashi Professor for the Advancement of Citizenship .

George Lovell served as Harry Bridges Chair in Labor Studies from 2012 to 2014. He is Divisional Dean of Social Sciences, Professor of Political Science, and Adjunct Professor of Law, Societies, and Justice at the University of Washington.
