Description

BUT ISN'T IT JUST... LIKE... GARDENS?
Well, actually… Landscape architecture is the making of environment that meets the aspirations and needs of human, wildlife, and other biological processes on earth. It encompasses a broad spectrum of practices from design of streetscapes to restoration of habitats and ecosystems

Landscape architects are, in a sense, architects of the landscape–the landscape that encompasses both natural and social realms, urbanity and wilderness, land, water and air. They design for people and communities, for plants and animals, to support social and natural processes, and to protect human and environmental assets.

OUR ROOTS
The focus of the Department is Urban Ecological Design that integrates sites, systems, and communities in a design practice that is socially, ecologically, and aesthetically engaging. We have made a long-term commitment to lead an interdisciplinary approach in the following key areas:

DESIGN AS ACTIVISM
DESIGN FOR ECOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
DESIGN FOR ECOLOGICAL LEARNING AND LITERACY
DESIGN FOR HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
DESIGN FOR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
