Professor Gelb received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Yale University. He joined the UW Department of Chemistry as an assistant professor in 1985, and he is now the Boris and Barbara L. Weinstein Endowed Chair in Chemistry and an adjunct professor in the Department of Biochemistry. Gelb’s research on enzymes and their importance in medicine has made him a globally recognized authority in several critical areas, including the development of drugs to treat neglected diseases and the screening of newborns for genetic metabolism disorders.
