Description | Featuring notable published work by several prominent comic artists and scholars who will be featured at this year’s conference of the International Comic Arts Forum (ICAF, taking place November 2-4 in the UW HUB), and the regional traditions they have emerged from or the topics in comic arts history they have explored: Peruvian artist and author Jesús Cossio and the Latin American tradition in comic arts; manga artist Moto Hagio and notable materials from the UW Library’s extensive collections of Japanese comic arts; the work of comic arts scholar Ramzi Fawaz on the history of LGBTQ-themed comics; and a survey of the East Central European tradition in comic arts, a focus of current ICAF President and UW Associate Professor Jose Alaniz’s research; all interspersed with the contributions of notable Puget Sound comic artists and publishers over the past four decades to the diversification and internationalization of comics in the U.S. |
