Guests include Japanese manga artist Moto Hagio; Ramzi Fawaz (University of Wisconsin, Madison); Peruvian comics journalist Jesús Cossio; and comics writer Kelly Sue Deconnick. While the conference adheres to no single theme, it often focuses on marginalized voices and the politics of difference in comics; the role in comics history played by the region in which the conference is held; the lasting cultural impact and significance of alternative comics in the US; transnational perspectives and trends; and the future of Comics Studies.
