Description

Join us on May 25th at 1 PM in Odegaard Library, room 220 to hear Mussa Chiwaula, a disability rights advocate from southern Africa, present on his experience growing up with a disability in Malawi, the path he followed that led to the development of FEDOMA (The Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi) and his current role as Secretary General of SAFOD (Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled). He will also discuss the current advocacy efforts and goals of SAFOD. A panel of disability rights advocates and experts will discuss similarities and differences between the US and Southern Africa and ways that participants can meaningfully engage in domestic and international advocacy.

On the panel will be Ed Holen from the Developmental Disability Council, David Carlson from Disability Rights Washington, Shawn Latham from Independent Living and Allies in Advocacy, and Stacy Gillett from Arc of King County. Stephen Meyers, UW Professor of International Studies (Law, Societies & Justice), will be moderator.
