A professor of Russian literature at Tulane University in New Orleans, William Brumfield is the author of over forty books and hundreds of articles on Russian architectural history and is widely recognized as North America’s foremost expert on the subject. The UW Libraries has collaborated with Brumfield to develop a database featuring some 30,000 of his digitized images of buildings and cultural landscapes throughout Russia.

On loan from the Wolk Architectural Museum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, whose staff developed it, the exhibit is based on Brumfield’s recently published book, "Architecture at the End of the Earth" (Duke University Press, 2015); his richly illustrated "History of Russian Architecture" was published in 2004 by the University of Washington Press.
