Description | Artist and writer Donald Fels will talk about Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Seattle a century ago, what the visit might have meant then, what it might import now. Incredibly stellar and exemplary in so many fields and endeavors, Tagore came to Seattle barely known here, and today perhaps even less so. How did he attempt to bridge the enormous divide between Calcutta and Seattle, and what does that space look like now? For nearly four decades, visual artist Donald Fels has been active in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He holds a B.A. in Art and American Studies from Wesleyan University, and an M.A. Ed. with Honors from City University where he was the Board of Governor’s Presidential Scholar. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of Washington. Fels has been a Fulbright Fellow to Italy and a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar to India. |
