Description | Register Now July Member-to-Member Lunch: Greece Debt Crisis with Dr. James Caporaso Friday, July 31st @ 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM World Trade Center West (2200 Alaskan Way, Floor 4, Seattle 98121) After weeks of speculation, negotiations, resignations, and a referendum, a deal to avoid a “Grexit” appears to have been reached. For now. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is unhappy with the bailout deal but successfully pushed additional austerity measures, including reforms on VAT, pensions, and early retirement, through the Greek parliament. Despite the deal, there are still policymakers both in and out of Greece who believe Greece should leave the euro—most notably the German finance minister. And the IMF threatened to withdraw support for the bailout unless European leaders agreed to substantial debt relief, thus threatening the bailout. Greece’s future, then, is far from stabilized with this deal. Join the World Affairs Council on July 31 for a discussion of the latest bailout plan for Greece, the possibility of a Grexit, and what the deal says about the future of the EU. The conversation will be led by Dr. James Caporaso, director of the European Union Center of Excellence and professor of political science at the University of Washington. Click Here to Register |
