Tad Hirsch, Assistant Professor of Interaction Design, created this exhibition as part of his tenure and promotion process. He has titled it Contentious Products. Included in the show will be two installations addressing contemporary gun culture, created with custom software written by Hirsch; video documentation of multiple interventionist works from the last fifteen years; and an award-winning project, developed with students, that addresses human trafficking.Hirsch received his PhD from the MIT Media Lab, and his MDes in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Washington in 2011, he lead design research teams at Intel Labs and taught at the Rhode Island School of Design. His work has won numerous international awards, and has been exhibited by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle. He is a regular presenter at ACM conferences on design and human-computer interaction, and his writings have been included in several volumes published by the MIT Press.
