Description | Speakers: Sonora Jha, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of journalism at Seattle University and author of the novel "Foreign," about the epidemic of farmers' suicides in India. She was formerly a special correspondent for The Times of India and a journalist in Singapore. Her academic research focuses on the intersections of press, politics and the Internet. Jennifer Stuber, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of social work at University of Washington and co-founder of Forefront, which focuses on innovations in suicide prevention policy, education, outreach, and research. Dr. Stuber, who lost her husband to suicide, conducts research on forms of oppression including stigma, discrimination, health disparities, mental health and policy-making/advocacy processes to address suicide as a public health problem and accurate media portrayals of mental illness. Brad Wagenaar, MPH is a Ph.D. candidate in Epidemiology at UW and research coordinator for Health Alliance International. His research and practice focuses on implementation science for health systems improvement in low and middle-income countries, particularly focused on mental healthcare and suicide prevention systems. He is currently completing dissertation work on the mental healthcare system in Mozambique. |
