Description | Reception + Screening: Tuesday, Apr. 7, 5:00-8:00pm Jacob Lawrence Gallery hours are Tue-Fri, 10am-5pm, and Sat, 1pm-5pm.
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Fixing the Future –Technics and Time, the fourth installment in the Factory Showroom series relating to the question, “Is a school a factory?” The first two exhibitions—Industry and Idleness—interrogated notions of time and labor as they related to the creative act; the third exhibition—Post-Speculation/thewayblackmachine—proposed tools for concretizing present time in the form of artworks, archives, and libraries. Fixing the Future – Technics and Time extends those themes with works exploring temporality, methodology, capitalism, and facticity, including a special installation by Dutch artist Erik van Lieshout, Commission, 2011; a video by Euan Macdonald, House (everythinghappensatonce), 1999; a special screening of Supposing I Love You. And You Also Love Me, created for the 2011 Venice Biennale by the recent Heineken Prize-winning Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh; and other works by local, national and international artists. |
